Leadership for the 21st Century: Transforming Public Health Practice and Improving Health Equity
A network of public health leaders with the commitment and capacity to transform public health practice to eliminate health inequities and promote healthy communities in healthy environments.
The California/Hawaii Public Health Leadership Institute (CHPHLI) was developed by the Center for Health Leadership and Practice (CHLP) of the Public Health Institute in 2008 and launched in January, 2009. Carol Woltring, Executive Director of the Center for Health Leadership and Practice, is the Director.
The California/Hawaii Public Health Leadership Institute is a year-long leadership development program targeted senior managers from the public health system in California and Hawaii. The cohort size is 35-40 participants each year. The Institute emphasizes increasing the participants’ leadership knowledge, skills, and commitment to leading and managing change; developing organizational capacity; creating strategies; and building partnerships that will contribute to eliminating health inequities by addressing the social determinants of health and by promoting healthy communities in healthy environments.
The major CHPHLI learning activities include: three retreats, webinars, leadership assessment tools, readings, an on-line learning community, and a changeproject.
Webinars sponsored by CHPHI are open to Institute participants.
