The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Health Impact in Five Years, or HI-5 (high-five) initiative, highlights a list of non-clinical, community-wide approaches with a proven track record. Each intervention listed is associated with improved health within five years and is reported to be cost-effective or cost-saving over the lifetime of the population or even earlier. Public and private organizations can use this list to quickly assess the scientific evidence for short-term health outcomes and overall cost impacts of community-wide approaches.

This Web Forum series highlights specific interventions identified in the HI-5 initiative, and will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to hear real world examples of how local and state-level organizations have expanded public transportation to meet needs of their communities. Presenters from CDC, Von Nguyen, Acting Associate Director for Policy, and Elizabeth Skillen, CDC Senior Policy Advisor, will provide a brief overview of the HI-5 initiative. Therese McMillan, Chief Planning Office at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro), and Joseph Calabrese, Chief Executive Officer & General Manager at the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, will describe their national and local experiences with introducing and expanding public transportation services.

We encourage public health professionals, community-based organizations, and urban planners to join us for this free one-hour Web Forum. Closed captioning will be available for all attendees.
