Eleven health departments in the United States were officially awarded accreditation status in February 2013. Hundreds more are in the pipeline, actively preparing and collecting documents, with the intent to move forward to an accreditation site visit within the next year.
There is much to be learned through this new health department accreditation program, including how to most effectively connect with key organizations that are critical to help achieve accreditation. At times, these strategies might be unique for a particular health department, but increasingly, helpful themes are being identified and shared with other health departments.
This Web Forum showcases how local health departments in California are engaging new partners for accreditation preparation. Attendees will hear about emerging tools and communication strategies for reaching out to organizations that are critical for achieving accreditation. An interesting comparison of strategies based on pre-requisite stage and active measure collection/documentation stage will be provided. In addition, attendees should be able to identify opportunities for partnership engagement during various stages of accreditation preparation, as well as sustainability over time, including when a health officer or department director position is suddenly vacant.
